A power supply had to be replaced on one of the main mail servers after its primary power supply sent a message it was failing. All incoming mail was held in queue while the units were replaced.

while the data center could see parts of the world all day yesterday, no one outside of the 'local' area could get DNS to any of the sites or email servers with the outage of Century Link. I must say that other major systems were also out and most of our clients also had no internet access.

Century Link had some kind of Fiber /Voice/Internet/ failure in all of New Jersey, taking out main lines and backups. Century Link claimed that they had lost power at some key HUBS which caused most of NJ and parts of PA, NY to not be able to see the rest of the world. When pressed for a larger or better explanation we were not able to get more information. PTF

Century Link had some kind of Fiber /Voice/Internet/ failure in all of Northern New Jersey, taking out main lines and backups. They restored all of it within the 30 minute window, I will post the reason for the outage as soon as it is given to me.

Power back on .. building on external power now .. Winds still high, and worry about local power outages from trees falling. Hear big launch of Emergency Vehicles about 30 minutes ago.

Data center has been on backup generators for 5 hours, Rain stopped. Winds are starting to back off.

We found the client that caused the bandwidth problem(s) on the email sub net, their systems have been shut down completely and their owners have been told about the abuse their IT department caused. They have been asked to leave. We were not able to find the problem in the past as we did not monitor the IMAP ports, those ports were restricted, the client opened an optional port (which of course we allow) but on that system we had not put a sniffer up to watch as there had been no previous ...

We are migrating all the older mail domains off the 5.5 Smarter Mail Server to the New 8.0x version of Smarter Mail. if you use the web mail interface there will be BIG changes, if you do not .. .you will see no changes, except maybe a little faster version of the software. Note: The 8.0x version does have synchronization for all your smart phones and even IPADs.

additional spam has gotten through to those domains that have the F-Secure (Proof-point) filtering. The gateways were being worked on and some spam was getting through while work was being done. All emails for those domains are no longer routing around that spam filters. Regards,
